down the hall

Posted by Jeff (Honolulu, United States) on 18 August 2008 in Architecture and Portfolio.

A few weeks back I had a meeting with a faculty member at Chaminade University in Honolulu. As I was leaving I noticed a hallway with archways and high ceilings and made a mental note to return sometime when I had my camera with me. Today I decided to revisit the school and found the hallway polished and ready for students to return. I took a few photos, of which this is the first. The image is the product of three separate shots combined in an HDR process and then finished in CS3 with layer masks and blending modes. This is my first photograph to use 'Blend If' modes contained in the Layer Style box. In this case, I used the technique to darken the scenery on the other side of the arches. I've been seeking ways to use HDR without the grunge effect that so often occurs. Running the HDR image through 'Blend If' modes seems to do the trick.

This site is the sister of "Aloha Photo" which is a much more extensive photo site and can be viewed at http://alohaphoto.my-expressions.com/index.html. Often images are posted in both places, but aloha photo has been in operation since 2004, so it has many more photographs. If you are interested in Hawaii please feel free to visit my other photoblog.
