Falls of Clyde

Posted by Jeff (Honolulu, United States) on 17 August 2008 in Transportation and Portfolio.

Falls of Clyde is the only surviving iron-hulled, four-masted full rigged ship, and the only surviving sail-driven oil tanker in the world. At the moment she is a museum exhibit in Honolulu. In 1973 she was entered into the National Register of Historic Places. In 1989 the Secretary of the Interior designated the Falls of Clyde a National Historic Landmark. Unfortunately, the cost of upkeep may lead to her demise. It has been estimated that $30 million is needed to completely overhaul the vessel.

This site is the sister of "Aloha Photo" which is a much more extensive photo site and can be viewed at http://alohaphoto.my-expressions.com/index.html. Often images are posted in both places, but aloha photo has been in operation since 2004, so it has many more photographs. If you are interested in Hawaii please feel free to visit my other photoblog.
